Tooth Extractions in Hamilton

Severe tooth pain, swelling, or a broken tooth? We provide gentle tooth removal and emergency extractions in Hamilton to relieve pain quickly and reduce the risk of infection spreading. Whether it’s sudden trauma, advanced decay, or signs of infection, we assess the tooth and recommend the safest next step to protect your comfort and oral health.

When Is a Tooth Extraction Necessary?

Whenever possible, we try to save your tooth with treatments like a filling, crown, or root canal. But an extraction may be the safest option when the tooth is beyond repair or putting your health at risk. Common reasons include severe decay, infection/abscess, advanced gum disease (loose teeth), cracked roots, or teeth removed for orthodontic space. Some cases also become urgent, especially if you have facial swelling, pus, fever, or pain that keeps getting worse. If you’re unsure, we can assess your symptoms and help you decide quickly.

What to Expect During a Tooth Extraction (Emergency or Scheduled)

Your visit typically starts with an exam and digital X-rays to evaluate the tooth, roots, and surrounding bone. We numb the area with local anesthetic (freezing), so you should feel little to no pain, just pressure. The tooth is carefully loosened and removed; if it’s impacted or broken, it may be removed in sections to protect nearby tissue. If needed, we place dissolving stitches, then gauze to help a blood clot form. After your extraction, we’ll guide you on aftercare (ice, soft foods, salt-water rinses) and pain control. If infection is present, antibiotics may be prescribed. Most patients return to normal routine within a day or two, but heavy lifting and intense exercise should be avoided for a few days.
